Well managed sustainable fisheries ensure the future of wild caught seafood stocks for generations to come. We believe that the management and stewardship of fishery stocks are the ethical responsibility of the global seafood industry and with the cooperation of the oversight, supply, distribution, and end user chain can be achieved to the benefit of all.
We support The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), an independent, non profit, global organization, in their development of guidelines and standards for well managed sustainable fisheries that also encompass any environmental impact.
A partnership between the MSC, governmental authorities responsible for fisheries management, the seafood industry, and the distribution chain, both retail and wholesale, form the basic links to achieve the goal of a truly sustainable resource.
The most important link to complete this chain and assure success is the label recognition and support by you the consumer concerned about over fishing. We urge you to look for the blue MSC label on your seafood purchases and ask your store representative to point out the location of MSC labeled products. With your help sustainable fisheries worldwide can be the standard and not the exception.
To learn more about MSC we invite you to visit www.msc.org. The first MSC species we are introducing to the market place is New Zealand Hoki, a firm white flesh fish. To learn more about New Zealand Hoki visit our New Zealand Hoki information page on this web site. We will be adding species and will update accordingly. |
